Dog constipation

My guy has not been pooping on a regular basis for weeks. Is there anything I can do to help him become more regular?

Some of the products that you can use to help with constipation are pumpkin (but make sure it is the real pumpkin not pumpkin pie filling), aloe vera juice or capsules and psyllium husks but with this last one make sure they are drinking lots of water.

I thought pumpkin was for dogs that have loose stool. Fish oils are good, lots of water, bran. What kind of food is your dog eating? Check the ingredients and do some research into quality foods.

I home cook for him and his diet is very regulated. He was actually in the emergency clinic for bowel stomach issues late last year. Major pain and cramps and he had gone from constipation to diaherra back to constipation. Turns out that we are dealing with IBS, irritable bowel disorder, and things are now under control. I tell this story because it was the vet at the emergency clinic who recommended the pumpkin when my dog had not pooped for 3+ days. It needs to be the natural canned pumpkin with no sugar not the pie filling stuff. Next day, out things came along with the pumpkin. The vet said they don’t digest pumpkin, it will just move things along. I continue to use pumpkin in very small amounts (two tbsps a day) to keep things rolling but cut back if poops start to get too soft.
