I do the same thing - with cheese too - but I follow up the second mouthful with a third right away. Our dog is so anxious not to miss a treat that he'll immediately swallow the second bite with the pill inside in order to make way for the third treat. We toss them to him and he catches them out of the air. Of course, if we wait too long, and he has time to think about it, he'll spit out the cheese with the pill inside.

We also find that holding the mouth closed and stroking the throat works, but it is not as much fun for us or the dog.

Our four legged friends are pretty smart! I have found that if I give my guy a piece of sliced turkey breast without the pill first and then the next one has the pills wrapped inside it works quite well. Bury the pill in a piece of cheese as your dog does not have a problem with cheese or the fat that goes with the cheese. Most of the time, I just open his mouth, put the pills at the back of his throat (quickly), give him a half a cookie and then hold his mouth closed while stroking his throat downwards. Another option is to purchase a product called Greenies, Pill Pockets. Take a look at our Products category and see if you think these might work. The ingredients are definitely acceptable.
